Artist Bio:
Dana Simon recently retired as a librarian with the New York Public Library. Dana Simon is returning to her first love as an artist. She graduated from New York University with a B.S. in Studio Art, and then studied with a three year scholarship award at the Art Students League. Dana Simon has a hearing and vision loss from a progressive condition called Ushers Syndrome. She began to find it more and more difficult to do her art, but in 2012, she joined the Seeing Through Drawing workshops at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, as a way to return to her art and learn new ways to create art using tactile and other materials. She exhibited with this group at the Uris Education Center in the Metropolitan Museum in September 2013. Dana also exhibited her work in her basement studio, as part of the Brooklyn Arts Gowanus Open Studios in October 2014 and again will be exhibiting in 2017.

Artist Statement:
When I first began painting I still had good central vision. As I have a progressive condition and my vision has changed my work is always changing. Now I am looking into ways to combine collage with paint and other media, incorporating my other senses such as touch and emotional feeling into my art.
