Artist Statement:
My projects respond to and intervene in built landscapes through photographs, maps and other ephemera that encourage unfamiliar explorations of everyday surroundings. I begin from observations made while walking in cities and simultaneously wandering through ideas about landscape. I am as influenced by urban practitioners from flaneurs to the Situationists to present-day planners re-using infrastructure as I am by the photographers of the US Geological Survey and their contemporaries whose images shaped an entire cultural understanding of landscape. By reinterpreting the physical contours of an environment, my work considers the tenuous boundary between constructed spaces and natural phenomena.
