Artist Bio:
I grew up mainly in St. Louis, Missouri, in a neighborhood where there were many large trees, and have lived in New York City for 28 years, most of them in Brooklyn. I came to art after a previous career in social work and in 2015, I earned a MFA from the City College of New York (CUNY). In addition, I have a Master's degree in Divinity from Union Theological Seminary in New York City. My work has been exhibited in venues including the Arsenal Gallery in Central Park, the Ground Floor Gallery, the Affordable Art Fair, St. Joseph's College and the Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition.

Artist Statement:
Recently my art practice has focused on creating sculptures from tree branches and vines, which offer many lovely forms and lines to work with. I'm also interested in the texture and color of the branches, which I gather from the yards of family and friends and also from the street. By using these elements, I hope to draw the viewer's attention to the majestic beauty and diversity of nature. In addition to the sculptures themselves, an important part of the work is the shadows they cast. Shadows are intriguing and mysterious to me; they are a "translation" of the sculptures and yet appear very different from them in many ways. Also, the shadows have a strong presence while at the same time they are immaterial--with a flick of the light switch, they are gone.
