Artist Bio:
Richard Eagan came late to visual art, after a long career as a woodworker, driven by a series of dreams about his childhood haunt Steeplechase Park in Coney Island. He soon met Brooklyn artist and fellow Coney Island enthusiast Philomena Marano- they went on to form The Coney Island Hysterical Society. Together, and with other artists, they engaged in art projects in Coney Island including "Spookhouse", a "ride-thru gallery in the dark". In tandem with Coney Island USA, they kickstarted the artists' revival of the amusement area in Coney Island. Richard Eagan is a founding member of the 440 Gallery, and has shown at The Brooklyn Museum of Art and galleries throughout NYC.

Artist Statement:
I am interested in the beauty within the ruins, what lies beneath the surface of things and places, and the evocation of the long-gone mysteries of the past. To quote Carol Lipnik, The Singing Mermaid, "Coney Island is a place where the things that are not there are more there than the things that are there".
