Artist Statement:
My work begins with the idea that I have lost something deeply essential that I must find. In this way, my process assumes the role of a search. The search initiates as a spontaneous response to the surface and materials at hand and a willful sampling and synthesis of disparate strands of visual language. Using symbols, patterns and other figurative elements, images shift into place amidst the marks of fresh editing, creating a visual path of my own inner dialogue and introspection. Often completing pieces in one session, I seek a rawness and purposeful urgency that reflects the disjointed storytelling of our digital age. Figures are found in my work as if caught in the act, entwining and morphing in charged, dynamic settings and frozen in place. I work within a place of transition, where no ideological feature can exist and mutations thrive under duress and compaction.
