Artist Bio:
Maggie da Silva is a painter and collagist who is heavily influenced by her theatre background. She studied theatre in the studio program at NYU in the 1980s, first in the Experimental Theatre Wing and then at Playwrights Horizons Theater School. At ETW, she was influenced by her teachers Ann Bogart and Elizabeth Swados, and at Playwrights Horizons, Maggie was most influenced by costume designer William Ivey Long, who taught Maggie stage and conceptual design. Maggie also grew up in a theatre family. Her father, the late Howard da Silva, was a noted stage and film actor, and her mother was also active in theatre and film. Maggie recently appeared in Twelfth Night at the Public Theatre/Public Works Free Shakespeare in the Park, where she drew portraits of audience members on stage. Maggie's painting style has been described as having "a light touch."
