Artist Statement:
The cognitive dissonance experienced in the world today is powerful and destructive. We want what we want despite the consequences. The reality and the reaction is all too apparent when addressing climate change, never ending war, neglect towards mental health, a general indifference to the suffering of others. This body of work asks why we seem to misplace apathy and obsession.

The classical and historical traditions of ceramic sculpture and oil painting speak to the obsession society has for beautiful and relevant objects. While the candid style and sardonic humor aligns itself with our less sophisticated attributes. Pushing the viewer closer to seeing the cognitive dissonance communicated in the work.

The metaphors conjured by the objects convey threats to the community and the individual. Failed traffic cones, neglected life preservers, and broken fire extinguishers amidst sinking ships, crashed cars and burning buildings. The growing acceptance of failed systems and the apathy it breeds. These pieces strive to lay bare the imbalance and derangement we have come to see as commonplace.
